My Portrait Project

I want to try to draw a portrait of someone, but I am having trouble deciding who.
I have narrowed it down to the following people:
Gene Kelly
James Dean

or Stu Stucliff

Like I said, I'm not really sure which one I want to do, but I want to do a pencil drawing, and I want it to be of an iconic person of the past, only which one I am not sure. (oh and if you are wondering who Stu Stucliff is, he was the original Beatles bass player)

I think I might be leaning towards James Dean at the moment, I don't know,

ah dilemma!

Mushroom house

I just did this mushroom house drawing with sharpie on watercolor paper. I feel very much in my element when I do mushroom drawings. I am also working on a smaller mushroom house in my sketchbook but I'm not finished yet. In fact I'm not really sure if I am finished with this one yet. I think I like it better before i added the foliage, I don't know, maybe I'll add some color to it. not sure yet.

Pencil drawings

Over the past few weeks I have been finishing one of the pencil drawings that I had left unfinished from my old sketchbook (which is also my current sketchbook), and I think that I have finally finished it. It is kind of a Dali inspired drawing. with tomatoes (not pumpkins).

It looks better in person, it came out kinda weird when I scanned it.

This one I started after an art history class when we were talking about Bosch. I felt like drawing a Bosch like fountain, I don't know if it even remotely looks like it was Bosch inspired but I always feel a little out of my element when I draw things not woodland or mushroom related.

I don't know, you tell me if seems Bosch like at all.

Old stuff from my sketchbook

I recently found my sketchbook from about 2 years ago, and discovered that it still had some empty pages left in it so I have taken to using it again.

These are two things that were still in it from 2 years ago.

This one was colored pencil
This one is oil pastel

Gnomes

This Is the book that began my facination with Gnomes. I found it accidentally at a half price book store one day and bought it just for fun, and becouse it looked old. I preceeded to read the book cover to cover and it now sits on my shelf in my room. Thus began my gnome facination and the three little friends living in my bedroom.

Well I guess this is a historic day

We watched the inauguration today during my history class.
it's weird I feel like I have been able to witness a very important moment in history.
Well here is to a new year, a new semester and a new president!

What a Week

My mom sent me a link to this book on Amazon and it looks really good, probably going to be the next book I read.

Blind Voices by Tom Reamy

Right now I am reading The God Emperor of Dune by Frank Herbert it is the fourth book in the Dune series.

So my weekend movies this week were Sweeny Todd and Batman returns. I unintentionally got two Tim Burton movies, although I do love me some Tim Burton. The past week was so crazy that I needed some movie release. After watching Sweeny Todd it has me yearning to have the soundtrack.

Wow not a good week

This week has been absolutely crazy, and it's not over yet. Oh man I just want to collapse into my bed and stay there for two days. But the worst of my week is over, and for that I am so happy. well all of this crazy has me in the mood for some Salvador Dali.

The Ascension of Christ, 1958

This is so one of my favorites. Oh man I love this painting!

Ok so here are some of my favorite Dali quotes:

"Each morning when I awake, I experience again a supreme pleasure - that of being Salvador Dali."
"I don't do drugs. I am drugs."
"The first man to compare the cheeks of a young woman to a rose was obviously a poet; the first to repeat it was possibly an idiot."
"The only difference between me and a madman is that I'm not mad."
"The secret of my influence has always been that it remained secret."
"There are some days when I think I'm going to die from an overdose of satisfaction."

Ok and another one of my favorites

Dematerialization Near the Nose of Nero, 1947

Wham!

Ok so last night I got three hours of sleep, which for me means that I am completely useless and barely conscious. but on these days when I feel like a glob of poop Wham! is always there to cheer me up. I mean how can you listen to Wham! and not feel good afterwards. So here are some of my favorite Wham! music videos.

wow I have been posting alot of videos.
I have been drawing and painting quite a bit lately. I think that I'll try to put some of my stuff up tomorrow.

My 80s music fix of the day

Ok so Billy Idol...

when I think of Billy Idol I think of a hard core lip curling slightly frightening man, and hey I like that about him, it very... Billy Idol

I do not however think of peppy, happy, perky Christmas tunes

Ok so I'm sitting here listening to Pet Shop Boys, and I have a feeling that I am going to spend more time watching 80s music videos then doing Art History homework

While I'm at it I might as well share one of my favorite Bowie songs of the moment

Ok well I think I am actually going to get to work now...
back to the Renaissance.

(I am really loving the Dali painting thing down there)

My Brad Pitt break

I wonder if winter break will ever end,but knowing how much the weather loves me I doubt the snow will stay. But if it doesn't then I still have Brad Pitt to keep me company. The other night I Watched Legends of the Fall. As much as I love Pitt I do not love blood, and well that was alot of blood. I also watched Troy. I don't know if Troy actually didn't have as much blood, but it didn't bother me there. I had never seen legends of the fall but a movie with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins was promising. I will say that I did really like the movie. I loved the scenes in the Montana countryside. They were absolutely beautiful. They made me want to run through the grass barefoot. Troy was just about as good as I expected, it was good. Although Orlando Bloom's character annoyed me, alot. He was so wimpy, and I find a wimpy Orlando annoying. Well I certainly hope that there isn't school tomorrow.

My first post

Seeing as how a new year starts today, it seems like a fairly good day to start my blog.

Well seeing as how this is my first post I suppose I should introduce my three gnome friends.

this is Ruthaford

This is Gnome (with the 'G' pronounced)

And this is little RJ
Yesterday I had all these plans for things I was going to get done, but all I actually did was a painting.

I’m not really sure about how much I like it. I decided that I wanted to try and do person (I usually stay away from painting people) and well I’m not sure how well it turned out. I was Happy with the head until I painted the face, and then I liked it more when I did the hair. My main issue with the final product is the body. I think that it distracted from the face, but overall I guess it isn’t one of my worst.
I think that I would like a new set of drawing pencils. I have this drawing I did my sophomore year sitting on my desk and it makes me want to do more pencil drawings.

Last night didn't include any wild parties for me. I had a nice relaxing evening with my family watching Wall-e. It was even more cute then I expected.
