Hippies and Hip Hop

As I was sitting in my house thinking about how I really wanted to get in on Seattle's hip hop scene I somehow found out that the Massive Monkees Crew was celebrating their 11th anniversary and that there was going to be a big b-boy/b-girl crew battle going down. Shortly after finding this out I was on the phone with one of my friends making plans to go downtown and see it. Just so happen that Seattle Folk life festival was going on as well; thus began a day of Seattle hippies and hip hop.
The Massive Monkees are a b-boy crew from Seattle that made it to the top three on the MTV show America's Best Dance Crew. Basically they are crazy good.

We began our day at the Seattle Center for Folk Life. This was my first time at Folk Life, and it was quite the experience. What struck me the most was the amount a variety of food! We didn't really stay for too long, instead we ended up walking around Seattle. We found a path that went along the waterfront and just followed it. We followed it for a long time. Before we knew it we were quite far from the Space needle (where we started and had to make it back to). But along the way we found a lot of interesting things and took a bunch of pictures.
I was so glad to see the waterfront. I missed the salt water while I was in Minnesota.

Along our way we stumbled upon this awesome looking wall.

At the same place that we found the wall there was also strange writing on the ground.

We also passed a boat from Korea

As you can see we were quite far from the Space Needle

When we decided to turn around we crossed over this cool double helix bridge.

After we finally made it back to the Space Needle we headed out again to find the place for the Massive Monkees anniversary. We of course ended up walking way out of our way but did eventually manage to find it. And I am ever so happy that we did. We walked in and it was like a dream. A room full of break dancers (a good number of them Asian). There were several circles and we stood in one for most of the time. We got to see quite a few incredibly talented dancers. I even got to see Twixx from the Massive Monkees break dance, which was just epic. To see him dance in person after seeing him dance many times on TV was a completely different experience; it was so intense.
Then the battles began. Two crews faced off against each other going five rounds. There were crews there from all over and the age range was quite large. I got some footage of the first two crews that battled (the video is taking forever to upload so I'll post it later). The whole event went till midnight and I wish I could have stayed longer than I did, but even with the amount of time that I was there the experience was fantastic and my passion for dance continues to grow.
